HANNAH DYSON
I am an illustrator based in Stroud and currently an artist at residence at the Prema Arts Centre in the beautiful Cotswolds village of Uley.
The landscape here is formed of steep valleys and ancient beech woods and is full of mystery and ancient sites that are my inspiration.
I enjoy drawing landscapes , folklore and fairytales. For my first exhibition at Uley I explored the true story of John Daniels, the little gorilla who lived here in the village a hundred years ago. I was able to combine landscape drawing with folklore – for me a perfect combination.
During lockdown in 2020 I returned to my first love of drawing animals and developed a collage technique of drawing with shape and texture to create unique portraits with an emotional heart. I launched this part of my work as @ourbeautifulbeasts.
I also enjoy collaborating with the Benjamin Pollocks Toy Shop in Covent Garden, designing and illustrating products including a Pinocchio paper theatre and circus character kaleidoscopes.
I studied illustration at Brighton University before doing a Masters at the Royal College of Art.
