Hi, my name is Kerry. I am a Scottish born artist now living and working in the Stroud valleys. Originally from Perthshire, my inspiration is very much split between my Scottish roots and the area where I now live, on the edge of the beautiful Slad valley. I literally feel like I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, and I still love the simplicity of unfussy drawing materials on paper. I am inspired by wildlife, the outdoors and the extremes of calm and drama in landscape.
I work across a broad range of mediums, ink, charcoal, watercolour, oils and more recently a rediscovery of soft pastels. I like to use interesting papers and work on both large scale life-sized deer or bear paintings to a range of miniature pocket sized gouache paintings of Scottish landscapes on handmade Indian rag paper.
In May 2020 I completed The Sketchbook Year, a pledge to post a completely original sketch or painting every day for an entire year and post it on my Instagram feed. This was a perfect distraction to those early months of Lockdown and reminds me how lucky I am to have a passion and drive to create imagery.
I have had work selected and hung in the R.A. Summer Exhibition, the RWA Autumn Exhibition in Clifton, The Affordable Art Fair, London and New York, The Jerwood Drawing Prize London and have a piece in the permanent collection of Prints and Drawings of The British Museum. I also very much enjoy taking part in Stroud’s Open Studio trail in the summer months.
